Frayer Model in a Math Class

Image result for frayer model template
This is a Frayer Model which is used in a classroom to help students go beyond the surface of just a word. This graphic organizer can be beneficial in a math class because it helps students organize meanings and concepts of math vocabulary. Students are most likely not gaining much knowledge from a list of vocabulary words followed by a definition. This chart allows a student to dive deeper into the value of the word. The Frayer Model is divided into four section; definition, facts/characteristics, examples, and non examples. Now, with the information in the graphic organizer, students not only understand the meaning of the word, but they know what it looks and what it does not look like in a given problem.

  1. Hey Gabby,

This is really nice resource. I could see it being applied in the classroom after a science or math reading activity. Students would be able to write down the terms or phrases that are confusing or they did not know, then use the tool to learn the words which will make subsequent readings easier for them.

  2. Hey Gabby! I really like the resource you chose to post. I think it is such a practical way to expand on an idea or topic in a visual way. I think it would be very useful in a math class because you could have the students put a formula or rule in the middle and then expand on it in the other parts of the chart. This would ensure that they are understanding the full picture and not just memorizing something.
